During the 2007 season, British Superbike events received live
terrestrial coverage on ITV, plus highlight programmes on Sky
Sports. In addition to the live coverage and highlight programmes,
the series reaches worldwide audiences through other cable/satellite
TV channels and widespread newspaper media. The 2008 season promises
to continue in that vein, with further exposure on regional TV
news programmes and primetime slots, delivering rider interviews
and exposure for sponsors. Publicity for the series will also
be found on radio news programmes throughout the year.
Viewing
Figures
Dorna UK became
the commercial and media rights holders of the British Superbike
Championship in 2004. They are responsible for all the commercial
interests of the championship including TV contracts. Dorna
is based in Madrid with offices also in Barcelona, London
and Tokyo.
From the statistics accumulated by Dorna, we know that adult
viewership for rounds 1-4 of the 2006 British Superbike Championship
averaged at one million per round. Viewing figures are continually
rising and revealing the benefit of having a live slot on
ITV. Sky Sports dedication to BSB remains strong, showing
repeated highlight programmes.
In 2007, BSB received more than 204 hours of national television
coverage, with 12.7 million adult viewers watching dedicated
programmes. BSB is a growing TV sport and the figures provided
by Dorna UK cement this fact. Spectator attendances for the
British Superbike Championship show a healthy rise year on
year, averaging 27,307 per round and rivalling many other
leading live events.
Editorials
In 2005,
Rockforge Racing's Rhys Boyd was featured in 'Two Wheels Only'
magazine and was heavily featured in the centre spread of 'MCN'
during 2006. The team hope to retain a presence in the press
during 2007 and were featured in BikeSportNews very recently.
In addition to the national press interest, Richard Wren was
featured in 'The Docklands' local press earlier this year. Our
team magazine 'Slippery When Wet' was introduced for the 2006
season and is produced by designXtras.
This is proving to be a highly informative and well presented
marketing tool, with detailed race reports, team profiles and
packed full with great articles for the race enthusiast. 'Slippery
When Wet' is growing in stature and now beginning to reach a
wider spectrum of readers. The online version of our latest
issue will be made available as a download through 'The Zone'
area of this website.Following
the team's collaboration with MCN's Michael Neeves last year,
we were featured within their publication.
Charities
Rockforge Racing actively support various national and international
charities and gladly offer their services at organised events
around the country. Our very own Rhys Boyd has taken part
in Enduro India on two occasions already, helping to raise
money for the World Wildlife Foundation and Rainbow Trust
Children's Charity. With all participants riding 350cc Royal
Enfield motorcycles, this life-changing journey offers fantastic
scenery and plenty of memories along the way. Rhys says "it
is an experience that stays with you, being chased by 450Ib
sloath bears and looking for tigers on foot, with no means
of defence apart from a pair of Nike trainers. There was one
incident last year where we got into a spot of trouble with
the locals for swimming in the crocodile pool". Up to
the 2006 event, the enduro has helped to raise over £500,000
and Rhys was committed to the Enduro again in 2007 and earlier
this year.

Awesome!
the words used by MCN's Michael Neeves when given the opportunity
to test one of our team bikes during a race weekend. The location
for this collaboration was the Brands Hatch GP circuit, during
round seven of the 2007 MRO Powerbike Championship.
